MSU/USDA RUP Record Keeping Project
Requirements and Components
Requirement A
Agent Type/Situation Facilitate PAT training (with a RUP record keeping component) in counties with; no extension agents, new extension agents, and reservations with or without extension agents or with new extension agents. (List the same criteria as above but identify which are new agents, ones without agents, and the reservations benefiting) (Most emphasis in this area)
See Timeline Tab: 2006
Special Note (Component #1):  The Flathead steering committee identified that many Flathead tribal members and land owners are employees and need a government license. This may be true for most Montana tribes. Once the tribal member/employee has a government license, they can readily apply for the private license.
Govt. Licensees will be provided with information about how to apply and receive a Private License without additional training.
Tribe PAT/Govt/PATR Situation
Requirement B
Tools Develop or identify an existing Power Point Presentation that pertains to RUP record keeping that will be readily available to extension agents and other agency personnel. This will facilitate more opportunity for private applicators in counties and reservations without extension agents to attend trainings that include this component. (Status report at each quarter and a copy of the presentation(s) at year end) (This bullet should be a high priority early on, and the presentation(s) could include a sample record, a handout and a hands on exercise on how to fill out a record, and informational pamphlets. )
See Spring and Fall Agenda Tabs:
Note: The entire "MSU/USDA RUP Record Keeping Project" web site is a tool designed to facillitate delivery of PAT Record Keeping to clients. By noting the components and timeline depicting when these components need to be in place an agent (especially reservation agents) can impliment PAT Record keeping delivery without reinventing the wheel. The agent can take the current tools and improve on it.
Examples of Newsletters, Proceedings, Surveys, Protective clothing are all available via the web site or contacting the last agent to impliment training.
Requirement C
Enhancment and Impact Adding RUP record keeping components to existing programs across Montana. (List counties, number of training sessions, and number of Tribal/Non-Tribal private applicators trained) (This one should have the least emphasis for this particular grant.)
Component #1
Steering Committee: Planning Meetings with Tribal committee, MDA and Department of Lands
Public and Extension Input:
We would like input from other Tribal extension agents here in Montana to find out what should be included in this program.  Most agents have developed some type of training on their reservations and we would like to know what unique aspects they face in presenting pesticide education programs, if any.  Or, on the other hand, what could we include in our program.
-  Do we need to include localized information on culturally important plants
-  Citizen education - what does it mean when you see a pesticide sign posted on a trail where you hike or gather plants?
-  Should we provide pesticide education in one day or over the course of a week to help applicators better understand the manuals?
-  Are sensitive ecological areas and/or endangered species habitats close to pesticide sources
